The Hairstyling Program provides students with the theory and practical study of all aspects of hairstyling for men and women. This accredited program follows Apprenticeship Manitoba guidelines and will offer prospective apprentices the opportunity to gain basic trade knowledge and skill. The Hairstyling program will appeal to students who have creative abilities and can visualize the end result. They must enjoy interacting with people and have strong problem-solving skills. If you have good dexterity and like to work creatively with your hands, this program will allow you endless opportunities as a hairstylist.

The Hairstyling Program is an approved apprenticeship program through the “Provincial Accreditation through High School” (PATHS) agreement.  

Students who successfully complete the accredited program with an accumulative average of 70% or better, will be eligible to receive credit for the technical training in the Hairstyling Apprenticeship program when they register with Manitoba Apprenticeship.  Students who complete all 12 approved courses with a minimum of 70% and enter into Apprenticeship within two years will receive credit for the technical training in the program and the associated hours.

Students who enter into Apprenticeship within ten years of successfully graduating from an accredited program must be assessed by Apprenticeship Manitoba as well as provide proof of upgrading. 

The Hairstyling program equips students with salon-ready skills and a deep understanding of hair care and styling techniques. This program follows the Senior Years Curriculum and is recognized by Manitoba Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Pathway
Completing all 12 courses from Grade 9 to 12 with a 70% average provides:

  • 1400 of the required 1500 Level 1 hours if the practical exam is passed
  • Complete Level 1 schooling upon meeting Manitoba Apprenticeship requirements


Potential Career Paths

  • Cosmetology Instructor: Teach aspiring hairstylists in beauty schools.
  • Salon Owner: Operate and manage a hair salon, providing services and overseeing staff.
  • Editorial Stylist: Work with fashion magazines or photo shoots, creating looks for models and celebrities.


Students will be required to complete at least 8 courses over the course of the program to qualify for the Senior Years Technology Education Diploma.
