English Language Arts
The English Language Arts Department provides our students with engaging and stimulating learning experiences as they work towards assisting our students in meeting the learning outcomes as outlined within Manitoba Education’s approved curriculums.
Graduation from the Province of Manitoba requires a completed English Language Arts credit at each grade level. The Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 English Language Arts courses are all single semester, single credit courses. Students completing their compulsory Grade 12 English Literary Focus or Comprehensive Focus will write a Provincial English Language Arts Standards Test which counts for 30% of the final grade of that credit course.
The study of English language arts enables students to understand and appreciate language and to use it competently and confidently in a variety of situations for communication, personal satisfaction, and learning. Students become competent and confident users of all six language arts through many opportunities to listen, speak, read, write, view, and represent in a variety of combinations and through a wide range of relevant texts. In keeping with the literacy demands placed on them, students now learn to read and produce a wide range of texts.
