Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
This program is designed to give students broad-based training in the heavy duty mechanic field. The training provided emphasizes sound theoretical training to meet the challenges presented by the increasingly more complex designs found in today's on- and off-road trucks, as well as construction, farm and forestry equipment. Fundamental skills of the trade are reinforced through exposure to practical applications. Other areas of program emphasis include related computer applications and business management skills. Each course within the program will have curriculum related to occupational safety and health, and both theory and practical components of the program will emphasize knowledge and practices for a safe workplace.
The program is designed to develop the students' work attitudes and standard of craftsmanship, problem-solving skills, and personal pride in order to prepare them for employment in the heavy equipment field.
Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is an approved apprenticeship program through the “Provincial Accreditation through High School” (PATHS) agreement.
Students who successfully complete the accredited program with an accumulative average of 70% or better in the trade subjects and level for which the program was accredited, will be eligible to receive credit for their Level 1 Technical Training when they register with Manitoba Apprenticeship. Students who complete all 8 approved courses with a minimum of 70% will receive the Heavy Duty Technician Accreditation Number on their transcript giving credit for the Heavy Duty Technician Program Level 1. This accreditation will be valid for four (4) years from the time it is issued.
