Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology program provides students with the opportunity to explore the exciting world of the automotive industry.  Automotive Technology career opportunities available to automotive technology graduates include apprentice automotive service technician, heavy duty/agricultural service technician, service consultant, parts advisor, parts rebuilder, maintenance technician, specialty/after-market technician or sales consultant.

This program will appeal to students who are patient, have a mechanical and technical aptitude who enjoy working with their hands, have strong problem solving skills, and can work independently or in a group. 

Automotive Technology is an approved apprenticeship program through the “Provincial Accreditation Through High School” (PATHS) agreement.

Students who successfully complete the accredited program with an accumulative average of 70% or better in the trade subjects and level for which the program was accredited, will be eligible to receive credit for their Level 1 Technical Training when they register with Manitoba Apprenticeship.  Students who complete all 8 approved courses with a minimum of 70% will receive the Automotive Technology Accreditation Number on their transcript giving credit for the Automotive Service Technician Program Level 1. This accreditation will be valid for four (4) years from the time it is issued. 

Students will be required to complete at least 8 courses over the course of the program to qualify for the Senior Years Technology Education Diploma.

The Automotive Technology program at SVRSS gives students hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. Aligned with the Senior Years Curriculum and recognized by Manitoba Apprenticeship, this program ensures that students develop the skills needed to enter the automotive industry.

Apprenticeship Pathway
 Completing this program provides:

  • 900 apprenticeship hours towards Level 1 certification
  • Level 1 exemption on technical training, available upon registration with Manitoba Apprenticeship
  • Additional 8 Credits Possible with HSAP

  • Automotive Engineer: Design and develop new automotive technologies and systems.
  • Service Manager: Oversee operations at a repair shop, managing staff and customer relations.
  • Fleet Manager: Coordinate maintenance and repairs for a fleet of vehicles, ensuring operational efficiency.
